The eleventh PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week officially commenced on 9th March 2018, marking the ninth consistent year of the prêt a porter platform. As announced earlier this 2018, the PFDC continues to take the fashion week platform towards an international and global standard. To that end, the Pakistan Fashion Design Council takes the concept of solo and duo shows a step further, having introduced the concept in Pakistan in 2017, by giving each day of fashion week a curated experience featuring a combination of solo designer showcases, grouped designer shows and a dedicated day featuring high street prêt-a-porter and the seasonal retail/lawn showcases. Further, as also introduced last year, #PSFW18 features shows divided between two entirely separate show spaces and two independent ramps within the same venue in their respective time slots [no coinciding or simultaneous shows], a first in Pakistan.
Day-1 marked the first day of the prét-a-porter shows featuring a grouped show comprising of PEL Craft/Design Show with GOLD by Reama Malik and Hira Ali in Hall A and a grouped show featuring Hussain Rehar, Arjumand Bano and Sania Maskatiya in Hall B.
The PFDC is proud to continue their partnership with Sunsilk as their title sponsor while introducing PEL as the red carpet sponsor, Borjan as the official footwear partner, Aquafina as the official beverage partner and Careem as the official transport partner.

The Council opened #PSFW18 with the introduction of a brand new show, dedicated to the curation and projection of indigenous craft within high-end design, in collaboration with PEL: introducing the PEL Craft/Design Show with GOLD by Reama Malik. For this dedicated craft show, Sehyr Saigol, chairperson of the Pakistan Fashion Design Council, has herself curated four designers who showcased four ensembles each turning distinct sub-continental craft into updated design led and globally relevant luxury retail pieces. To this end, the chairperson selected artisans and designers, mentoring and monitoring to develop techniques, motifs and skills necessary to update our craft into design led fashion. This new show also marks the corporate patronage of PEL, fostering the partnership between the designer and craft with the PFDC. Indeed, PEL’s support of this show is manifest of the brands sustained and ongoing commitment to social responsibility.
Showcasing 4-piece capsule collections each during this show were Akif Mahmood, Hamza Bokhari, Shahroz Tariq and Zonia Anwaar along with jewellery by GOLD by Reama Malik.

The collection was divided into four segments Feroza, Coral, Pearl and Gold.
The capsule collection ‘Senchi’ by Zonia Anwaar for AHAN reflected rich cultural hues with old school ‘neelak phulkari’ and geometric patterns revitalized in our signature embroidery techniques. This collection displayed a variety of exquisite hand embroideries to go with hand woven fabrics from different regions of Pakistan.
Shahroz Tariq Khan showcased his capsule collection titled ‘Pixelated Euphoria’ for this segment. Inspired by the 8-Bit Pixel Art, Tariq has translating the pixelated graphics into the euphoric feel of spring summer. The collection comes in fabrics such as pure cottons, linens, cotton net, organza with cross-stitch and trendy and minimal cuts infused with eastern and western fusion. The color tones used are baby blue, powder pink, lilac, cream, white and red for ‘Pixelated Euphoria’. For Tariq, impactful minimalism is the trend to look out for this 2018.
Jeem by Hamza Bokhari’s capsule collection for this segment titled ‘East Bound’ was inspired by the craft of Bhawalpur. Including 4-menswear pieces aswell, Bokhari has used breathable fabrics for ‘East Bound’ such as chambrays, light weight silks and cottons with cotton thread embroideries. The color palette comprised of pastels with the splash of distinct summer colours. For Bokhari, trends to look out for this 2018 are effortless silhouettes and wearable art. Trans-Model Maavia walked the ramp as a celebrity showstopper for Hamza Bokhari, a first for Pakistan. Indeed, this was the first time a trans-model has walked the ramp at a PFDC fashion week.

Hussain Rehar: showcased his collection titled ‘Sunken reverie’ at the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Luxury Prét Grouped Show segment on Day-1. This collection is inspired by the aquatic influence with intricately detailed ensembles, complexity of forms and its multiple interpretations of fabric. The collected comprised of accented striped blazers, jackets highlighted with zippers, sheer net skirts and stockings. With floor length dresses and stripes hanging off with delicate embroideries encapsulating wild sea creatures, the color palette is also inspired from these living beings that lie hidden under the sea ranging from tangerines, oranges, mustards to the shades of fuschia and pinks, to blues, silvers, black and whites. Featuring jackets with cutout metal rings and accent trims highlighting them surrounded with chunky 3D embellishments, these rings are associated with sea sponges with threads hanging out like tentacles. The silhouettes are uplifting packed with detail, saturated with a diverse color combination.
Arjumand Bano: made her PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2018 debut with her Luxury Prét collection ‘My Head is The Jungle’. The collection draws its inspiration from the song, ‘My Head is a Jungle’ by Emma Louise. Bano’s fondness for this song and love for fashion brought about this collection. Bano has worked with bold rich botanical prints and textures; further enhanced using lyrics from the song. The collection has a wide range of silhouettes that include jumpsuits, dresses, jackets and trenches. The collection consists of floral motifs, jewelled animal motifs, 3D embellishments and accessories. ‘My Head is a Jungle’ is combination of Art and Jungle, tailored into fun wearable pieces of fashion.
Sania Maskatiya: Multi-award winning fashion house Sania Maskatiya showcased the S/S’18 Luxury Prét collection, Colour Dash, as the opening day finale for PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2018. The showcase was complemented by jewellery from Allure by MHT with footwear from Charles & Keith and music by Dj Shah Munir. This showcase came hot on the heels of Sania Maskatiya’s Lux Style Award win for their Achievement in Fashion Design – Luxury Prét last month. This Spring/Summer, eclectic colour combinations become the playfulness of form against monochrome for Sania Maskatiya’s Luxury Prét Collection, Colour Dash. This juxtaposition weaves poetry within the interplay of colours. The fashion house bring their signature asymmetrical cut-lines and drapes composed of a myriad of colours in patchwork silhouettes with bold craftsmanship and class that characterizes the Sania Maskatiya woman.
“We started, back in 2016, when we first met. We're both studying architecture, in the prestigious National College of Arts, Lahore.
The idea was concocted during a random conversation over a cup of tea. We never knew that the small initiative we took to pursue our love for art by amalgamating different forms of painting techniques in order to reinvent the simple beloved khussa would spiral into a business venture. Thus, in order to sustain our love for art we bring you our labour of love “Aatish Parre”.
